1 Month Already!

I can't believe Emmy is already a month old. She is very alert & follows us with her eyes all the time. She is a good eater & sleeper. She usually sleeps for about 5-6 hours each night. We've been taking her out and about with us all around town. Sometimes she fusses, but usually she's pretty quiet. She likes her car seat.

She was a little fussy around three weeks. All she wanted to do was nurse all day long. I believe she was going through a growth spurt. Some evenings from 6-10 pm she has her moments. I'm wondering if she's a little collicky.? I feel so bad when she cries so hard.

She doesn't really care for pacifiers. We have tried every brand and she just spits them out or gags.

She is starting to smile a little. We haven't quite caught a smile on camera yet. She smiles in her sleep a lot. It is so precious. Emmy looks a lot like mommy, but she has daddy's beautiful blue eyes. :)

1st Wedding

Brad's cousin Amy got married last weekend. We had a little trouble getting ready before the wedding and ended up missing the whole ceremony. Emmy was fussing and I discovered that after the pregnancy, none of my clothes seem to fit right anymore...even though I weigh less now than when I did before I got pregnant...go figure.

The wedding was real nice. We had fun with the families. This picture is of Emmy & Sarah & Richard's little boy, Max. I think that Max & Emmy will be the best of buds.

Meet Corky & Bev

My aunt & uncle Corky & Bev stopped over to meet Emmy. We had a nice visit with them. Corky held Emmy and sang "Rock-a-bye-baby" to her. She liked it.

1st Time Meeting the Cousins

Emmy met her cousins for the first time. Each one got to take turns holding Emmy.

1st Bath

We gave Emmy her first bath! It didn't go too well. She hates to be naked and she cried pretty hard. Her second bath the next night went a lot better.

I think that in a previous post I mentioned how much Brad hates belly buttons. Well, when Emmy's umbilical cord was falling off, I had Brad change her diaper. He panicked and started to gag when he saw it! I laughed. :)

1st Day at the Park

We took Emmy to her first park. We stayed on the walking path for a little while and then stopped because mommy got tired!

1st Doctor Visit

We brought Emmy in for her first doctor visit. Basically, they just checked her weight. She wasn't gaining the weight that she should have been. Typically, newborns should be back at their birth weight by their first doctor visit. Emmy was a little below her birth weight. She was born at 6 lbs 13.5 oz and dropped to 6 lbs 4 oz when we left the hospital. (it's common to lose up to 10% of their weight after birth). At her 1st doctor visit, she weighed 6 lbs 8 oz. So, her doctor put us on a feeding schedule for a week to see if she would gain weight. I breast fed for 20 minutes, pumped for 10-15 minutes and then gave her an ounce of what I pumped. At her next visit, she gained 7 ounces within 5 days! (Newborns gain about an ounce per day). Her next doctor visit is her two month check up.

1st Trip to Montevideo

We went back to Montevideo to visit family when she was about a week old. We can't go home to Montevideo without a treat at Art's. For those of you who don't know what Art's is...it's this little drive-up hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Monte. It's been there for many years. They have the best burgers and yummy ice cream and slushy treats! I found out later that Emmy didn't really care for Art's food too much. She really put up a fuss after I breast fed her. Maybe when she gets older, she'll learn to love it as much as daddy does.

First Time for Everything...

Sorry it's been so long since our last post. We have been a little busy with Emmy and we usually sleep when she sleeps. We've been blessed with a good baby though.


Our first outing was to the neighbor's house. We took her for a walk in her stroller to their house, but we didn't stay too long. The next day we went to Costco to get some pictures developed. We didn't think that we were going to be gone long, so we didn't even think about bringing her diaper bag. Wow...can you tell that we are first-time parents!!?? She fussed a little bit at Costco, so we had to hurry up and get back home.


Getting ready for the day or an event is so much different now. I have to allow myself a lot of extra time before we leave the house. I'm getting used to doing things one handed. Emmy still doesn't like sleeping in her bassinet. She likes the skin-to-skin contact with mommy. I'm trying to break her of that, because I know how hard it is going to be down the road. I've found out that running my blow dryer keeps her calm too.

Welcome To The World!

We are proud to announce the arrival of our little angel! Emmy Kristine Krusemark was born on July 23, 2008 at 8:40 pm. She weighed 6 lbs 13.5 oz and was 18 inches in length.

The day that Emmy was born was pretty eventful. Our day started at the clinic with my weekly check up. On the way to the exam room, my water broke. My doctor sent us to the hospital and I was admitted around noon after a couple of tests. I didn't have any contractions at all. Our labor nurse had me go for a walk to see if contractions would start on their own. Nothing happened after walking the halls. So at 3:00 they started Pitocin. I started getting contractions and then after a couple of hours ordered an epidural. The doctor who was supposed to administer the epidural was called, but didn't arrive until an hour later. By then the contractions were getting pretty strong. By no time, I was starting to push. However, the nurses noticed Emmy's heartbeat was dropping. So we were brought to the O.R. for an emergency C-Section. Brad was getting pretty nervous and got dressed in scrubs to be with me in the O.R. He did a great job of keeping me calm despite being worried.

After Emmy was born, she was cleaned up and brought to the nursery while I was in recovery. Then we were brought to our post-partum room where we camped out for five long days. We came home on Sunday morning.

We are having so much fun getting to know Emmy. She is such a good baby. However, right now she has her days and nights mixed up and we are working on keeping her up a little more during the day. She is such a precious little peanut. She doesn't like being naked and doesn't like her bassinet very much. She loves cuddle time with mommy and loves to suck her thumb while daddy holds her.
