Hockel Golf Tournament

Last weekend we celebrated with grandpa Bernie's side of the family. Each year we get together in St. James, MN for a family reunion/golf tournament. This year I golfed with Gretchen, Danielle, Sarah, Gabe & Lindsay. This is a "Best Ball" tournament so it's fair for everyone playing. Lindsay had never been on the golf course before, but had a few great shots that we used. We ended up being the last team of the group to tee off. There were about 25 of us golfing. Our team ended up with a score of 40 for 9 holes. Brad golfed with John-Michael, Richard & Danielle's husband Michael. They scored a 36 for the day. Sarah teed off on hole # 4 and her ball hit a goose. :)
Grandma Debbie stayed home to watch Emmy while everyone was golfing. Emmy was sleeping when we left to go golfing and when we returned home, she was back down for another nap.
Emmy has developed a rash on her stomach after this weekend. I am wondering if she ate something that she may have had a reaction to? It doesn't seem to bother her at all, but we'll keep an eye on it.

"What's a snake say?"

SSSSSSSssssssssss...Is what Emmy says when we ask her what a snake says.
She is trying to buzz like a bee too. She also makes an elephant sound with her lips.
She loves blowing kisses and she gives nice big slobbery kisses when I ask her for a kiss. I think it's cute, but Brad gets a little grossed out.
She's walking around pretty well now. However, she wants to walk down the stairs like a big girl. She scoots around once and then stands up and takes a step forward. Last night she would have fallen all the way down the stairs if mommy wasn't right there to catch her. I still need to put one more baby gate up.
She loves to play with the Step 2 climber/slide at daycare. I was really impressed when I went to pick Emmy up yesterday. She climbed all the way to the top and then slid down the slide all by herself. Dar says she does this 50 times a day. Pretty good for a one year old. Now we'll just have to get one for at home. :) I thought that her climbing up on the furniture was pretty good. Man, she's way ahead of me...no fear!!

Walking & Boo Boos

This little girl is accident prone...Emmy is walking now (like a drunken sailor), and today she fell & hit her lip on the corner of the coffee table. About a half hour later, she went to pick something up on the floor and while bending down, she cracked her eye on the same coffee table. Then about an hour later she fell into the end table and hit her head again. She has a fat lip and a big lump on her forehead. I'm wondering if this is a same pattern of her uncle Bob when he was young.

Weekend News

On Saturday, we went to the Titanic Exhibit at the Science Museum. It was really interesting and put together very well. It was definitely worth the money that we spent to get in. We kind of had to rush through the end of the exhibit though because Emmy was getting a little restless.
After we left the Science Museum, we decided to get something to eat. As we were driving to Roseville, the sirens started blaring outside. It was really dark outside and we were heading right into a big storm. We immediately turned around and went home another way. We drove down 394 towards Ridgedale and headed over to Applebee's. We got inside as people were returning to their seats. The whole mall was evacuated due to a tornado that had touched down nearby. We didn't see any bad weather, it just got very dark...no rain.
On Sunday we went to Canterbury Downs to see the Ostrich & Camel races. It was so funny!! Those birds are so huge! After the ostrich races, we went inside to cool down. Brad's cousins (Sarah, Jen & their boys) met us after the ostrich race. We had a blast and Brad won $50 on the horses.
We met Sarah & Richard for dinner at Pei Wei after the races. We were planning on going to the bowling alley after dinner, but I think we were all pooped out and Emmy was stinky and tired.

Plastic Surgeon Visit

Emmy & I went back down to HCMC yesterday to meet with the plastic surgeon. The doctor said Emmy's arm looks good, but is a little pink so she has Emmy wearing a compression band to minimize any scaring. Emmy is supposed to wear it for a couple of months I guess. So far she doesn't mind it too much. To me, it seems pretty tight. She can only have it off to take a bath. I would think it would itch, but the doctor said this will not be irritating or itch. We don't have to go back to the doctor again. Yeah! The doctor said that she is healing well...just keep the band on for a while to help the scars. We'll just continue to keep lots of lotion and sunscreen on her arm too.

1 Year Stats

Emmy had her one year check-up on Friday. She weighs 20 lbs 4.5 oz and is 29 3/8 inches long. She also got three shots in her arm. She remains in the 25-50% category. But her head is another story. Her head is in the 75-90% category. She must have a lot of brains in there.

Here are some updates...
  • Emmy loves to pick belly buttons...daddy hates this and it drives him crazy!
  • She's starting to dance to music. She just bounces up and down a bit.
  • She tries to do "Head, Shoulders, Knees and toes" with the other kids at daycare.
  • She is now saying "Mama." Yeah!!!!!
  • She loves to ride her horse and her red airplane. She gets on them and makes them rock back and forth.
  • She sticks her tongue in and out of her mouth and makes a noise while doing it.
  • She loves buttons and loves to push the garage door opener every day.
  • She gets very excited when she sees her daddy.
  • When we ask her what a lion says, she growls. When we say, "what's a puppy say?" she goes arf, arf, arf. We are working on other animal sounds too.
  • She loves to feed herself.
  • When she picks something up from the ground, we say bring it to mommy or bring it to daddy and she will hand it to us.
  • She is still putting a lot of things in her mouth, but understands the word "NO."
  • For the past few weeks she eats all table food now and is on whole milk. She didn't mind the change to whole milk at all. No fuss. She has not turned down anything that we have tried to feed her. Even cilantro. Yuk.
  • She takes a few steps in between her toys, but is not a full walker...yet. She'll probably go straight to running.
  • We are getting her a bigger "forward-facing" car seat today...such a big girl!!
  • When she gives me a hug, she pats my back...this is so precious!
  • She loves playing with the kitties.
  • She dials random numbers with my phone. Today she called the operator.
  • She doesn't like leaving daycare.
