Scarecrow Festival

Last weekend we were in southern Minnesota. Brad's grandparents moved off their farm of 60 years. They built a new home in town and last weekend they had an auction. We drove down to their place and stayed the night. On the way home, we stopped at Emma Krumbee's Apple Orchard. There was a scarecrow festival going on. It was so cute. There were all kinds of different scarecrows, hay piles for the kiddies to play in, camel & pony rides, a petting zoo with goats, miniature horses, donkeys, etc. I realize that Emmy is way too young for this kind of festival, but we wanted to stop and check it out. I got a ton of cute pictures.

Who Does Emmy Look Like?

Mommy...1976
Daddy...1978
Emmy...2008

Two Month Check-Up

Emmy had her two month check up this morning. She weighs 10 lbs 6.8 oz and is 21 3/4 inches long. She's gained almost 4 pounds since her last check up.
She also had to get a few vaccines today. It was so hard to watch her get the shots. I felt so bad for her. She cried pretty hard for about five minutes and then fell asleep. I told Brad that he HAS to go with her next time. I can't watch her go through that.

Play Time

Here's Emmy enjoying her play time. She just loves to stare at these hanging toys.
Emmy was two months on Sept 23rd. She's cooing and focusing in on a lot of things. She has a strong neck too. She is definitely a morning person, unlike her mommy & daddy. She just beems from ear to ear in the morning and it makes us so happy. Day care has been going well and I enjoy being back to work believe it or not. I'm getting back into the groove of things and heading into our busy Hockey season at work. Brad is busy with work and also some side projects.
All is well and thanks for checking our blog.

First Day at Day Care / First Tumble

Well...The first tumble didn't happen at day care. We were getting ready early Monday morning and Brad was getting Emmy ready for the day. As he was walking down the stairs with her, he fell while holding her. It scared the living daylights out of me! All I heard was a very loud boom, boom, boom, down the stairs. I screamed and ran to see if they were okay. Emmy cried pretty hard and then fell asleep five minutes later. Both Brad and her are fine. Brad's back is a little sore today, but he's okay. Brad says that his big belly helped to cushion her fall. We were pretty worried about her all day.

When I brought her to day care, I told Dar about it. She has an RN background and said that she would watch for any signs of injury. She mentioned that Emmy was probably more startled than anything. Their little bones aren't really fully formed, so she's probably okay.

Emmy's first day at day care went really well. Dar said that she couldn't have asked for a better day and that Emmy was a little "Princess." She IS a little princess, but she can be a little stinker too. She ate about 4 oz at a time yesterday. That could be the reason that she is so good at day care. When she's at home, she would like to breastfeed EVERY hour. So, when she's at day care, it's nice to actually know how much she's actually getting at each feeding.

I wish that there was a little gauge on your chest that would tell you how much you are producing and how much the little stinkers are getting at each feeding. :)

Emmy's 1st Emmy Awards

With the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards just minutes away, Hollywood is swimming with stars. They're beckoned by gift suites and parties around town, while round-the-clock preparations are under way at the Nokia Theatre, where the awards will be presented today.

Why is it Called an Emmy?
A television engineer named Louis McManus designed the statuette, using his wife as a model. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) says that the statuette represents the arts (a winged woman) and the sciences (an atom). The first Emmys were given out in 1949. The original name for the award was the Immy, a nickname for the image orthicon tube, part of an early type of camera; but the academy began referring to it as the Emmy because that more feminine name suited the statuette. The R.S. Owens Co. of Chicago makes the Emmy statuettes. (This company also makes the Oscars, the awards given out by the film industry.) An Emmy is made of a high-grade pewter and electroplated in copper, then nickel, then silver.
Finally, it's electroplated in 18-karat gold. It weighs 4-3/4 pounds (2.15 kg), and is 16 inches (40.64 cm) high.

Really Cool Fact:
Emmy's Great Great Grandparents were named Oscar & Emmy!
No...our second child will not be called Oscar if it's a boy. Sorry.

Let's Go Mohawks!!

Anyone wanna play tennis?
Or maybe Emmy can cheer for you!!??
We are the Mohawks, the mighty, mighty Mohawks
Let's Go Go, Go Go
Stand Up, Be Proud
Say Your Name, Out Loud
WE ARE THE MOHAWKS!!!
(fyi...Monte sports used to be known as the Mohawks until 1994. We had to change our name to the Thunderhawks during my senior year in high school due to it being too "Indian" related.)
When does hunting season start?

Going back to work

My first day back is on Monday. It will be hard going back to work and not being with my little peanut every day. I would have liked to have taken a full 12 weeks of maternity leave.
We found a home day care near our house. She has about 28 years experience and she has an RN background...which is a plus. Emmy will be going to day care Monday thru Thursday. I will have Friday's off to spend time at home with Emmy. I'm really excited about that. This day care is the same day care that my friend Jody brings her daughter Marilynn to. Marilynn is almost a year and a half, so she'll be pretty good at showing Emmy around when Emmy gets a bit older.

All the girls wanted to hold "Baby Emmy."

Hoffman Fundraiser

Last weekend we went back to Hoffman to participate in a fundraiser for a new hockey rink in the town. Brad's cousin Julie put together the fundraiser. There were blackjack and poker tables. Each person paid a $20 entry fee and then got a bag of chips to play with. At the end of the night, everyone could exchange their chips for tickets to put into the really cool prize drawings. Prizes ranged from a fish cooler, Hoffman Bucks, a subscription to the Hoffman newspaper, a wine basket, a gas grill & a flat screen tv. You received one ticket for each $20 in chips.
I did pretty well at the blackjack table and thought that I was going to win the flat screen tv for sure. I think that I put about 50 tickets into the flat screen tv drawing. My luck ended at the blackjack table...I didn't win the tv...I didn't win anything :(
Brad and his dad were busy as dealers for the night. Emmy stayed back with Grandma Debbie for the night.

Like Mother, Like Daughter...

When we were kids, we used to go to the lake a lot. My grandparents used to go camping at Kandiyohi Park #2 for many, many years. It was close to Montevideo, so I remember going there a lot and having so much fun.
When I was six months old, my mom thought that I needed a bathing suit to wear at the lake. So this is what she bought. I still have this swim suit today, but it is packed away somewhere. I really should find it and put it on Emmy soon.

Grandma Linda found Emmy her own bathing suit a few weeks ago. I couldn't resist putting it on her. :)

Special Gift For Emmy

My paternal grandmother, Alice, used to do such beautiful cross stitch work. I only have a few of her pieces . She passed away a few years ago, so I was bummed when Emmy was born that I didn't have something that was made from Grandma Alice to display in her nursery.
Last weekend my dad gave us this special gift which was made by Emmy's Great Grandmother Alice a few years ago.
When my dad was helping my grandparents move out of their house, which they lived in for many years, he saw this piece and grabbed it...now I know why throughout my entire pregnancy my dad was so adamant on us having a girl!!
This gift is so special and I will cherish it forever!
It says,
"Train up a child in the way she should go;
and when she is old, she will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6"

Little Beauty Queen

Our little beauty queen is 7 weeks old already! She's almost 10 pounds. We will be going in for her two month check up on the 26th...so, we'll get the official numbers then. She sure is growing fast. But she is definitely our little peanut. She's been really good...not fussy at all lately. She doesn't look very happy here...she was hungry!!

I tried out our Baby Bjorn yesterday. I had to do some cleaning around the house. Emmy didn't want to be left alone, so I figured why not try out the little snuggly...she loved it!

Nice Hair!

Emmy's hair is just like her uncle Scott's hair!! Too funny!!

Baby Shower in Montevideo

Last weekend, my sister-in-law, Rachel, threw a baby shower for us. It was held at Grandma Linda's house and we had so much fun. We received so many wonderful gifts and so many adorable clothes! I can't wait for Emmy to grow into all of them.
Vivian Sedestrom & Olea Martinson...memebers of our church in Monte.
Aunt Bev.
Cousin Andrea & her daughter Kristin.
Aunt Jone holding Emmy.
Cousin Jennie holding Emmy and keeping her calm. Sam holding Emmy and talking to her. Grandma Debbie & Grandma Linda just can't get enough of Emmy.
Emmy is so tiny next to my old Cabbage Patch Doll.
Three Generations!
What a cute family!!

All Smiles!!!

I caught the cutest smile today on camera. Emmy has a few different smiles. She has a "wide-open mouth" smile, a "big huge ear-to-ear" smile, and a wicked smile with her one eye squinted shut. It's so adorable and I actually was lucky enough to catch a few on camera today. She smiles a lot at Brad, but today she smiled for the first time at mommy.
